Ok. Enough with the 3rd person. It’s not me. I’m just going to write like a normal person.
Since I was 18, I’ve been on a relentless hunt to learn, experience and do. I am constantly analyzing and questioning how things work, why people do things and what better solutions might exist. My wife, tells me that I can’t shut my mind off, and she’s probably right. But I love thinking and engaging with others and believe that those qualities are what have helped me succeed despite a very non-traditional career.
Over the past 20 years I’ve led strategy for agencies big and small, in the US and abroad. However, despite early advice to the contrary, I made a conscious choice to not specialize in a single marketing discipline. From PR to Social to Creative and most recently Media, my diverse strategic background has allowed me to better understand how a marketing system truly works. I have horizontal knowledge, rather than vertical. As David Epstein would say, I developed range. And, in an increasingly integrated world, range is a skill of even greater importance.
Alongside my agency career, I’ve also been a serial entrepreneur. I’ve produced documentaries and reality shows, launched award winning mobile apps and built a podcast company from the ground up. Whether a success or a failure, each project allowed me to glean learnings and skills that help me in all other areas of my skills. Currently, I’m building a mobile time-capsule app called MMRY BANK and co-producing a multi-platform documentary with my wife called “Second Life” which dives into the struggles that elite athletes have transitioning into their life after sports.
While my curiosity and ambition drives me to constantly create, I find my purpose and fulfillment in my young family. Battling depression as a child myself, I have found that the 100 year study on happiness could not be more true. The more I give to my family and personal relationships, the happier I am. My family and I are constantly working out, playing sports and exploring museums and activities. And because we want Duke to grow up in a world better than the one we did, we’re active in the fights against social injustice and climate change.
So that’s me. If you want to work together or get my thoughts on a project you’re working on, don’t hesitate to reach out.
